"There is currently a growing interest among artists in ancient mythology, many of whom are re-evaluating its philosophical, political, aesthetic and mystical significance in order to create a certain form of contemporary mythology. The exhibition ‘L’ Harmonie ou le Milieu des Mondes ‘ (‘Harmony or the Middle of the Worlds’) is part of this impulse, examining how the notion of harmony affects this theme, and how its driving force creates humanist values. Each of us is a world in itself, constantly active, taking shape according to types, essences or themes, in response to incessant external stimuli. Instinctively, in the turmoil of our inner selves, each of us seeks harmony, a deep understanding with ourselves and our environment: intrinsic to nature, harmony is an agreement of elements, separate but united. Harmony, it could be said, is invisible, incorporeal and irrefutably beautiful. To immerse ourselves in this dream that unites us, inspires us and anchors us, the exhibition offers the vision of 7 national and international artists. Six distinct universes for six venues, and Paul Toupet returning, like an echo of his first visit to the Carmel in 2022. Far from reducing our own aspirations to an ordinary everyday life, the art on display in ‘L’Harmonie ou le Milieu des Mondes’ reveals a possible reversal of data: in the face of general anxiety, the exhibition encourages us to cultivate our imagination for the extraordinary capacity it has to shape reality.
