Description
Guest curator: Anne Richard / HEY! modern art & pop culture Fondation Bernardaud, Limoges, France Since 2010, HEY! modern art & pop culture has made visible in Europe an international community of artists working to challenge dominant conventions and codes, subverting established values of contemporary "good" and "bad" taste. The contemporary art world continues to grow, but is more than ever defined by the market and its transactions. With rare exceptions, this market pays little attention to unexpected or spontaneous worlds. Pressurized by this "aesthetics of profit", too many works are neutralized into an insignificant mass. The result is repetitive, clichéd or polished proposals, which exclude the so-called uninitiated from the spectacle of art. Far from this soulless world, ESPRITS LIBRES, Céramiques en résistance builds a different story, embodied by the choice of twelve artists - and as many moments of thought - who develop the most original views, restless and open to exchange. They are the product of free minds. Faced with these twelve artistic entities, it's easy to understand how the choice of ceramic medium is fundamental to the chosen approach to the respective subject: its intrinsic materiality, its capacity for volume, its physicality projects the work itself into a dimension of the tactile specific to the human. But by questioning our humanist values and achievements, these artists challenge us to observe our own capacity for transmission, transgression and transformation. This joyful shaking of certainties is a source of new, profoundly living forms; it proposes the exploration of a territory of reconciliation, benevolence and solidarity, where the works become a plea for difference, in praise of dialogue and respect for life.
