Description
Solo show Galerie Du Bas - Halle Saint Pierre, Paris, France Original artworks + Fine art prints Born in 1981 in Sprang-Capelle, the Netherlands. Handiedan is a Dutch visual artist who has been drawing since her early childhood. In her work, she combines manual techniques (traditional hand-cutting and collage) with digital techniques (sampling and image montage) to materialize her idea of the various forms and channels through which the vital energy of the universe’s beginningless and endless time flows. Throughout her process, questioning the accumulation and the constancy of an invisible exchange between past, present and future, the artist aims to reflect the eternal movement of life through a representation of powerful contemporary feminine identities. In this flux, the artist’s fetish character, Amélie, appears drawn in pen in each work, like a mischievous, fluid and dis-creet quantum particle. Starting in 2019, her body of work also incorporates a new series of high relief cut-outs and collages on old earthenware, drawing on the prestigious past of Delft blue to shape a new calibre of work, alongside the framed bas-reliefs for which she is internationally renowned. After graduating in 2001 from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda, Netherlands, in photographic design, the artist became a photographer’s assistant while maintaining a strong interest in drawing, which she practices daily, and in digital creation. In 2007, she started her career as a visual and multimedia artist. Her art is exhibited worldwide, and collected in Europe, United Kingdom, United States, Japan, Australia, Mexico. Her work Amo (2016) is part of the permanent collection of the Urban Nation Museum in Berlin. In 2011, she produced large-scale outdoor works in Europe and the United States (Richland Mural Project, Richmond, VA; Wall \ Therapy, Rochester NY, One Wall Urban Nation, Berlin and White Walls with Unit 44, Newcastle upon Tyne). Since 2017, Handiedan has engaged in the exploration of virtual reality, and NFTs. Handiedan lives and works in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The artist was first presented in France by HEY! in 2013.
