Description
Born in 1972, United States. Lizz Lopez's work, mainly created in graphite, has been internationally recognized since the late 2000s. Her art combines the notions of the "perishable" and the "nascent", studying the concept of vulnerability in our Western societies. Daughter of a Southern Baptist minister, Lizz Lopez grew up in San Antonio, Texas, in a sectarian environment that forbade her any layman activities. As a teenager, fascinated by clinical imagery discovered while leafing through old medical encyclopedias, she decided to get involved in this very field and joined the University of the Incarnate Word (San Antonio, TX); but the teaching of this private, Catholic institution handled by nuns became unbearable for her. The young girl then escaped the religious environment and obtained a major from the Art Institute (San Francisco, CA) in classical oil painting. Registered nurse with a specialty in anesthesiology, the artist draws every day and daily works by night in a hospital hospice. This "authenticity is the completeness of my art" she says. HEY! exhibited her art for the first time in France in 2019, at La Halle Saint Pierre Museum.
