Description

TATTOO. ARTE BAJO LA PIEL The contemporary collection of the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac devoted to tattooing, unique in today's museums, was created in 2017. During the exhibition's first presentation in Paris in 2014-2015, today's most eminent tattooers were invited to produce a work on silicone replicas of body pars. At each presentation across the world, the exhibition was enriched with new works commissioned from tattooers of different nationalities. The Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac has chosen for its collection the most important of these, ranging from the traditional to new creations. The tattooed silicone pieces constitute a new milestone in the collection, alongside objects, drawings, engravings and photographs showing the ancient practices of tattooing on every continent. What was originally an ephemeral inscription on a individual's skin is ow preserved, studied and highlighted in order to reveal the history and aesthetic of tattooing. The "Tatoueurs, Tatoués" exhibition now attracts over 2 million visitors.
