Description
HEY! in collaboration with TAXIE GALLERY, Paris, France. Born in 1967 in Paris (France). Lives and works in a village in the heart of Côtes-d'Armor (France). Victor Soren grew up in Le Pouliguen, a small fishing port in Brittany. After a mediocre schooling, he was admitted to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, but left almost immediately. Today, he describes the experience as "absolutely detestable and utterly pointless". From then on, he shut himself away in an old house in Nantes lent to him by his grandmother. Every night, he drew frantically. A recluse by nature, he doesn't frequent the local art scene and never shows his drawings. In 2006, he moved to Paris and discovered by chance, at the Galerie Béatrice Soulié, a drawing by the artist Louis Pons (1927-2021), depicting a large rat crossing a city at night. Soren was captivated, and realized: "I am that rat! Supported by Béatrice Soulié, he opened a new chapter in his career. The installation presented here comprises some fifty drawings executed in black stone on Mylar, then tinted on the reverse with walnut stain.
