Description

Zoé Forget, born in 1982, France. Lives and works in Paris. Zoé Forget has been working since 2006 in the studio with performers (contemporary dancers, burlesque artists, circus performers, porns - including Yannick Unfricht), focusing on the visual and fictional capacity of bodies. Since 2018, impregnated with the iconology of A. Warburg and J. Mitchell, her attention has been directed more precisely to questions of representations - gestures, glances, reception, expectations and desires sometimes unacknowledged around the photograph. Since 2019 she associates to the photographic image a plastic work from the hair, archetypal element of the definition of the female. In the series Venus, the hair takes on the role of a contemporary feminine commentary on images produced solely by men between the end of the 19th century and the 1950s. A female gaze that does not contradict, but rather rereads the male gaze that arranged its models as anonymous objects of desire. Their eroticism is not denied and the female body is not dressed, but accompanied by the tactile and erotic charge of hair, whose work evokes both the "mourning jewels", where the hair of the loved and disappeared one was arranged as an ornament, and the heritage of manual work called domestic, traditionally reserved for women. Zoé Forget holds a degree in photography from ENS Louis Lumière, a doctorate in Aesthetics, Science and Technologies of the Arts, and is a lecturer at the University of Paris 8. She is also a member of HEY! modern art & pop culture since 2012.
