duo Anne & Julien
Specialists in fringe art and pop outsiders
Description
Over the years, and in almost thirty years of activity, the work of the founders of HEY! - Anne & Julien - has been recognised for its ability to unveil new talent and open up previously ignored fields of exploration. Specialists in fringe and outsider pop art, they have been working along two lines since 1990, when they opened their art gallery L'Hydre de L'Art (Paris). Tying in with the concerns and interests of the present day, they revive forgotten worlds, choosing themes and works that tend to make the avant-garde visible; and deciphering cutting-edge subjects that offer an alternative to the vision of a unilateral, normative culture. Militant about the influence of pop countercultures and art on the margins on the way the world moves, the duo founded the art magazine HEY! modern art & pop culture in 2009. Issue 1 hits bookshops in 2010. Anne has been in charge of publications and exhibitions since 2010. Julien (aka Mr Djub and Djubaka) left HEY! in 2017 to develop his work as an artist.
